Just received and installed my Cityblox this week. First off, the packaging is great. With other products, they are totally squished during shipping, so when you receive you cannot actually do anything for at least 1 day while the foam expands. With cityblox, they are not shipped that way, so you can start to use immediately.
I had read other reviews that claim the product is hard to install, is cut inconsistently, and overall makes it hard to establish a good look with a good pattern. That's false! All of my strips were cut perfectly so that I was able to hang them one after another without adjusting anything, and it came out great. You'll want to pay attention to the strip patterns, there are 2 different types and you'll want to alternate them to get the best pattern. I will admit, I purchased some other foam pieces elsewhere, and spent much more time mounting and aligning those than the cityblox.
As far as acoustic properties go, I honestly cannot tell right away. I have lots of other room treatments, so I can't gauge exactly how well they perform. I wanted this set because of the higher NRC than the lowrize set, attributed to the thicker block size I assume. I have these positioned on the wall directly behind my listening position in a 2x10 pattern, along with some 2" sound panels, corner traps, and other foams. I did a basic rectangle, but I was really, really tempted to do a more elaborate design.
Overall, it looks really good, gives a real nice custom look to my studio space. The pattern just looks fantastic on the wall, and other than the equipment, I think that's the first thing people notice when they come into the space. Now, I kinda wish I'd gotten more of this and less of the other foam. For this price to treat 16 sq ft with 4" material, that's a great value.
All prices are in USD.
